Matlock Bath

Developed as one of the country’s first tourist destinations, Matlock Bath in Derbyshire retains much of the character and interest that impressed early visitors. 1.5 miles south of the town of Matlock, on the busy A6, Matlock Bath is set in the beautiful gorge of the river Derwent, with attractive riverside gardens, wooded hillsides and rocky limestone crags. A popular tourist destination since the late 17th Century when the spa waters were discovered, its’ heyday was in Victorian, times when it became known as “Little Switzerland” by the poet, Lord Byron.

A popular destination for families, bikers and fun seekers, there are plenty of things to do and see. The Matlock Bath Illuminations are a popular feature from September to the end of October, when the riverside is decorated and the cliffs floodlit to create a magical scene of colour. At weekends there are parades of decorated boats, entertainments and, on certain dates, firework displays.


Things to do; An exciting cable car ride takes you up to The Heights of Abraham, where the wooded country park is crowned with the Victoria Prospect Tower. The Great Rutland and Masson Caverns are former lead mines that have been adapted as show caves. The Grand Pavilion houses a Tourist Point and the Peak District Mining Museum. For youngsters, the theme park of Gulliver’s offers hours of fun and enjoyment. There is also an aquarium and a photographic museum in the village. The Riverside Gardens and Lovers Walks offer gentle strolls away from the crowds, and nearby High Tor affords spectacular views from its lofty summit. The Derwent Valley Heritage Trail runs through the village.

The full address of the apartment is 72-84 North Parade, Matlock Bath, Derbyshire DE4 3NS – it is the large Victorian building next to the amusement arcade. You can bring your car onto the forecourt when you arrive.

The front door has a key pad to unlock the door. Each apartment has a key safe by the door, with the keys to the apartment.

Please park carefully as space is very tight. Only three Apartments – Arkwright, Gullivers & Abraham have an on-site parking space. Other apartments need to use the public car parking nearby. If you have an additional vehicle, there is a public car park 300m away at the Heights of Abraham (turn left out of drive). There is also on-street parking outside the property 6pm to 6am.

Shared Facilities

On the ground floor is a washing machine, tumble dryer and large freezer. Outside the back door is the main dustbin (large green bin), where waste should be placed. The back yard is shared with other apartments, but you can store bikes in this area


The apartment has an independent heating and hot water system. The thermostat is on the wall in the apartment. It is a Nest thermostat, and you just rotate the outer dial to the desired temperature.







It is a combi boiler that will make hot water when you turn a tap on.


The TV is a smart TV. There is not an aerial on the building, but you can watch some live channels using the BBC iplayer or ITV hub apps. Other apps are available for you to use, but you will need to have your own accounts to use them eg Netflix.

Keeping Safe & Secure

We care about your safety. We suggest that you familiarise yourself with the layout of the property and how you would escape should fire occur. To help minimise the risk of fire:

    • Don’t let children play with matches or lighters;
    • Don’t leave children alone near the cooker when it is in use;
    • Watch chip pans;
    • Check heaters;
    • Make sure everything is switched off last thing at night;
    • Do not smoke inside the apartment or inside the building;
    • Make sure the young or elderly take special care.

The whole building has an interlinked fire alarm detection system. You can raise the alarm manually, by breaking the glass on one of the fire alarm points located in the corridors. There is emergency lighting throughout the building common areas.  There is a fire blanket in each apartment, and extinguishers in the corridors

Familiarise yourself with their instructions for use but do not tackle a fire if you think it will put you at personal risk. Above all, if there is a fire:



In an emergency, should you need to turn off any of the services to the cottage:

    • The stop-tap for water in located under the kitchen sink;
    • The fuse-box is near the door to the apartment;
    • The gas tap is under the kitchen units.

Please depart by 10am on your day of departure and put the apartment keys back in the keysafe outside the apartment’s door.
