Kniveton is a pretty and ancient village which lies on the road between Ashbourne and Wirksworth. Three miles away is Ashbourne, lying at the southern end of the Peak District, which is a perfect example of an English market town – market place with stalls, eccentric street plan, narrow cobbled alleys, coaching inns and almshouses. In the 18th Century, the town was a fashionable social centre and many fine Georgian buildings remain from this period. Today the town still has much to offer in terms of shops, restaurants and inns and is regarded as something of a haven for antique hunters.
Hillocks Cottage is a spacious 300 year old stone built cottage with exposed beams, situated in the heart of the village and a couple of minutes walk from the local pub – the Red Lion – which has a reputation for good food.
