Located in the Hope Valley, Eyam is one of the best-preserved villages in the Peak District National Park, nestled at the foot of Sir William Hill, 800ft above sea level and is surrounded by the most glorious countryside. Historically the village is known as the famous ‘plague village’ and the village has a popular pub a short walk from the cottage, two village shops, various cafes and a range of shops and eating places in the courtyard of Eyam Hall.
Lavender Cottage is a stone built Grade II listed cottage situated close to the centre of Eyam, with on-street parking outside the cottage. Centrally located in a beautiful part of the Peak District National Park, this is an ideal location for exploring on foot with lovely walks from the doorstep, or riding a bike through the many quiet lanes and footpaths of the area. This cottage is full of character and includes two bedrooms, each with double beds and a family bathroom upstairs. Pets are welcome – please note that this cottage does have a lawned garden area to the front but it is not enclosed.

The historic village of Eyam (pronounced 'eem'), in the Peak District National Park in Derbyshire, which became famous after the Black Death of 1665 and 1666. An outbreak of the plague was contained when the villagers decided to isolate themselves from the surrounding communities. Many people in the village died. It is also known that some of the village population were genetically unique and naturally immune to this very deadly disease. There are still descendants of this line in Eyam.
Village life in Britain has changed considerably in the past fifty years, and many villages have emptied as people moved away to the towns. Eyam however still has a vibrant community and thriving businesses. Eyam has links with industry, being a worldwide centre for the production of fluorspar, a material of great value in smelting and open hearth furnaces.
‘Wakes Week’ at the end of August is a high point in the village year. Various community events take place and the historic Well Dressings, designed and created each year by local people, are put on display. Wakes Week culminates in the village Carnival, which is great fun and raises substantial sums for local charities. The Plague Memorial Service also takes place on the Sunday of the August Bank Holiday weekend, where the experience of the village during the plague is remembered and honoured. It starts with a procession from the church to Cucklet Delf where the service is held, commemorating the outdoor services also held there during the time of the plague when the church was closed.
There are many places of interest to visit in the village, including St Lawrence’s Church, the Boundary Stone, the Riley Graves (where the Hancock family were buried, their only survivor being Mrs Hancock who buried her husband and six children), Mompesson's Well, the Darby Graves and Eyam Hall.

- Book online or give us a call: You can book online securely, using the booking form below and secure your holiday by using a credit / debit card. Alternatively, call us on 01629 828 301 - no booking forms to fill out and we will do all the paperwork.
- Confirmation & final payments If you book online you will be sent confirmation by email shortly after you complete the upfront payment. Bookings for holidays due within 6 weeks of contacting us will need to be paid for in full within 48 hours of making your upfront payment online - in those situations we will take the final payment automatically from the card used to make your upfront payment. If your holiday is more than 6 weeks away, we will contact you when your final payment is due, so don’t worry about forgetting a payment.
- Joining instructions: All our cottages now have keysafe's so you can get into the cottage anytime after the cottage is ready. All the 'how to' instructions and local information are online, and details are sent out the day before you arrive, so you can familiarise yourself with everything before you arrive and plan your holiday in the Peak District.
