About Your Cottage
Perhaps best known for its unique and delicious Pudding, Bakewell has many more tempting treats to offer – ranging from shopping and specialist markets to relaxing strolls and special events.
Idyllically situated on the banks of the river Wye, the biggest town in the Peak District National Park’s mellow stone buildings, medieval five-arched stone bridge and quaint courtyards are a magnet for painters, photographers and sightseers alike.
Legend has it that the town’s famous Pudding was created by mistake by a local cook in the mid-19th century. Today her delectable ‘jam tart that went wrong’ can be sampled at various bakeries and cafés and posted virtually anywhere in the world!
Bargains galore are on offer every Monday at the bustling outdoor market, and for an extra buzz, head for the livestock market to experience the action in the theatre-like auction ring.
Cherry pick choice local produce at one of Britain’s best Farmers’ Markets or browse in specialist shops selling everything from high fashion and outdoor clothing to handmade chocolates and rare whiskies. Savour a light snack, lunch or dinner at a host of cafés, restaurants, pubs and tea rooms and take a brewery tour and sample world-beating craft beers at Thornbridge Brewery.
Catch the colour of Bakewell Carnival Week and Well Dressing in July or Bakewell Show – one of the oldest agricultural events in the country – in August.
Thinly disguised as ‘Lambton’ in Jane Austen’s literary classic Pride and Prejudice, Bakewell is the ideal place for an interesting town walk. Visit The Old House Museum – one of the oldest buildings in Bakewell – for a fascinating insight into the town’s past, or feed the ducks during a riverside stroll.
If you’re feeling active, head for the nearby Monsal Trail for some traffic-free walking, cycling or horse riding amid some of the prettiest scenery in the Peak District.
What do we need to bring?
We have tried to make the cottages a home-from-home so hopefully you will find most things you need at the cottage. These are self-catering cottages so you will need to bring (or buy locally) your own food and other supplies you may need. The cost of your holiday includes bed linen, quality towels and face flannels for each guest. As part of your starter pack, we will also equip the cottage with:

- A pint of milk, some tea, coffee and sugar
- Two clean tea towels & oven gloves
- Clean table cloth on dining table
- An initial supply of toilet rolls
- Roll of kitchen paper
- Bottle of washing-up liquid, new J-cloth & new washing-up sponge / scourer
- Spare bin-liners for kitchen bin
- An initial supply of dishwasher tablets
- Salt & pepper in grinders
- Liquid soap in dispensers at hand basins
- A small supply of toiletries in case you forget something!

Parking is at the side of the cottage. There is space for 1 car there.
Access is via North Church Street, past the Church, round to the right and straight on to the intersection with Fly Hill. All the area around Fly Hill is restricted parking. If you have a second car, the nearest unrestricted parking is on Yeld Road, about 10 minutes walk away.
The key safe is located at the rear of the parking space on the wall of the house. The email that sent you the link to this page contains the code.
Keeping Safe & Secure
We care about your safety. We suggest that you familiarise yourself with the layout of the property and how you would escape should fire occur. To help minimise the risk of fire:

- Don’t let children play with matches or lighters;
- Don’t leave children alone near the cooker when it is in use;
- Watch chip pans;
- Check heaters;
- Make sure everything is switched off last thing at night;
- Do not smoke inside the cottage;
- Make sure the young or elderly take special care.
There are fire alarms in the cottage. They are sensitive so they may let you know very quickly if a piece of toast is getting a little ‘well done’. Once the ‘smoke’ has cleared they will re-set themselves in about a minute.
Familiarise yourself with their instructions for use but do not tackle a fire if you think it will put you at personal risk. Above all, if there is a fire:

Telephone & Broadband
Mobile reception is reasonable on most networks in the town.
Free WiFi is available at the cottage. You will need to enter a security key into your computer to access the network. The router is by the TV in the sitting room and the codes are also on the front of the router:

Central Heating
The central heating is run by a gas combi-boiler. You should not touch the settings on the boiler – the heating can be boosted using the thermostat which is located in the sitting room.
The boiler will make hot water automatically when you turn on a tap.
TV
The TV has access to Freeview TV – channels 1,2,3 etc.
Kitchen Lights
The switches for the kitchen lights are not obvious – they are under the bottom of the wall cupboard, just to the left of the microwave.
Smoking
Out of consideration to other visitors who will subsequently occupy the cottage, we ask guests not to smoke inside.
Pets
Dogs really enjoy a holiday in the country with their families, so we have made our cottages dog-friendly where we can. We ask you to ensure that your dog is well-behaved, remains out of the bedrooms and off the furniture at all times. You should never leave your dog alone in the cottage or the patio area.
Local Shopping
You are walking distance into the centre of Bakewell where you will find many local shops and some of the high street names – Co-op supermarket, Aldi (on A6 towards Buxton), Boots, Banks and Post-office – and a general and farmers’ market (Mondays). Further north on the A6 is Buxton, and to the south are Matlock &, Ashbourne which are also major shopping centres.
Departure
We ask that you vacate the cottage by 10am on your day of departure. Please can you lock the cottage and put the keys back in the key safe.
