Self-catering holiday cottages in the Peak District
The Nook, Kniveton Nr Ashbourne
Sleeps 4 / 5 in 2 Bedrooms ◊ 1 Bathroom ◊ Log fire
Dogs Welcome ◊ Traditional country cottage
Kniveton is a pretty and ancient village which lies on the road between Ashbourne and Wirksworth. Three miles away is Ashbourne, lying at the southern end of the Peak District, which is a perfect example of an English market town – market place with stalls, eccentric street plan, narrow cobbled alleys, coaching inns and almshouses. In the 18th Century, the town was a fashionable social centre and many fine Georgian buildings remain from this period. Today the town still has much to offer in terms of shops, restaurants and inns and is regarded as something of a haven for antique hunters.
The Nook is a 250 year old stone built cottage with exposed beams, situated in the heart of the village and a couple of minutes walk from the local pub – the Red Lion – which has a reputation for good food.

Steeped in history and situated at the southern end of the Peak District, the lovely village of Kniveton sits in a deep hollow on the slope of Madge Hill, offering home to a scattering of traditional stone cottages, a village pub and a delightful old church built in the 13th century. Surrounded by lovely rolling countryside and situated close to the excellent watersport facilities at Carsington Water, this great location provides the ideal base from which to explore the surrounding area.
Nearby Ashbourne is the perfect example of an English market town, boasting an eccentric street plan, narrow, cobbled alleys, old market stalls, many fine coaching inns and a good selection of restaurants, whilst being regarded as something of a haven for antique hunters. For those who prefer outdoor pursuits, the Dove and Manifold Valleys are close by offering good walking and cycling, whilst Alton Towers is just a 30 minute drive away!
